Packet pickup was at Runfit. Runfit had a percent off during that time which was nice. When I picked up the packets for Terri and I. The lady stated, “Can’t wait to see your costumes”. I thought to myself “does she know me or Terri?”. I didn’t recognize her, so I just stayed quite.
The race director sent out plenty of emails to keep everyone up to date. I did read a partial email where it said you had to be parked by a certain time because they were closing the entrance because of the route.
On March 26, Terri and I showed up at Safety Town on SR52. We were early than most but at least we got in before it closed. The start area was in a pavilion area where they had a real bathroom. There were vendors set up, so we shopped a little & bought some raffle tickets in which proceeds went to the charity. A lady asked to take picture of our outfits & we agreed. They were some others dressed up too. They had some announcements about cancer survivors which was touching. The National Anthem was sung by a cancer survivor as well. It was in the low 50s when we started. What were we thinking wearing skirts, we were cold. The course started on a paved trail then mixed from sand, deeper sand, and back to a pave area. It was mostly shaded too. The sand was a little difficult, but we tracked thru it & kept going. We didn’t want to stop because we were too cold. We finished & got our nice medal. We saw the fit niche guy (tony? -can’t remember his name) & he told us to check out the results on the monitor. It was nice to have the monitors because we found out Terri was 2nd in her age group!!! So we waited around for the award ceremony. The live band played until the ceremony started. The first awards went to costume contest. What????!!!!!! There was a contest? Oh, it’s on next year, we will be back & go all out. So, the awards went pretty quickly & Terri got her 2nd place medal. The place medal was ok but nothing special. We didn’t win anything from the raffle but overall, it was fun & we’ll be back.
